There are a million ways to use the same foundation pieces but still switch up the look of an outfit.

Going for something more basic?  Stick with jeans and a classic white top with a fun blazer and chunky jewelry.

Looking for just a bit more funk?  Add color or textured tights and trendy boot.

Birthday Girl

DSCF4930

It’s my birthday today.  I wish I could say that it has been a wonderful weekend, but unfortunately I can’t…  A huge “snafu” happened at work late on Friday and it was my fault and my responsibility.  Blame it on work-load overload, stress, attention to detail – whatever – it sucks and is very upsetting and frustrating.  Personally, I blame it on the birthday curse.  From a broken engagement, a dog dying, a boyfriend in a motorcycle accident, and my car broken into – my birthdays have not brought me much luck the last few years.

That said, I’ve decided to release the birthday curse and manifest good things for my birthdays from here on out.

I’ll start the good vibes by remembering all the wonderful blessings I am so thankful for: supportive amazing friends, a crazy little family that loves me, a man that I can’t imagine my life without and who makes me laugh every single day, faith that holds me when my world seems to be crumbling, a hunger for food and a passion for life.  The list goes on.  Take that birthday curse!

I did try to enjoy my birthday on Saturday even though the work stress was still on my mind.  I visited with a fabulous friend of mine and did a bit of walking and shopping.  For our leisurely outing I wore a simple cotton dress from Forever XXI w/ a lovely white flower pin.  For dinner out with the man later that evening, I got dolled up in a flowy floral thrifted dress & my Stuart Weitzman heels (pic @ top).

In keeping with today’s flower theme…

My very non-foodie boyfriend actually made a "Top Tier" Devil's Food Cake with Sour Cream-Fudge Frosting for my birthday.  Oh my goodness – it was so amazing!  I was very impressed.

You may be surprised to find that even with my 130+ pairs of shoes, I only have a couple wedges.  I’ve been looking for some for a while, but I always seem to have 1 of 3 problems with them:

  1. They don’t fit my foot right (usually they are too narrow)
  2. They don’t have enough ankle support
  3. They just feel too heavy on my foot (I’m used to skinny stilettos people!)

Anywhoo… I found these wedges and they actually meet all my cuteness and comfort criteria while not having any of the above issues!  Of course they were the most expensive wedges of the 6 I tried on…  :(  but I guess sometimes you just have to pay the price!

Weekend Party Dresses

I had a ton of stuff going on this weekend!  From birthdays and parties to plays and working.  I didn’t get pics for all my busy weekend outfits, but I did get a few.  Ironically, even with all of the very different outfits – I wore all Steve Madden shoes!

To me, one of the most important things when choosing an outfit is making sure it’s appropriate for the event.

I think about what I’ll be doing, where I’m going, who will be there, etc…  These thing play in to even the most basic choices (length of skirt, height of heel, etc..).

As you can see, each of my events this weekend called for very different attire!

LBD w/ Red

  DSCF4283

Dress: Laura Clement.  Black/White pattern top: Express.  Necklace: Forever XXI.  Shoes: Stuart Weitzman.

I love a little black dress because it’s so easy to dress up or down / wear for business or wear for work… etc…

I always like to pair classic pieces with:

1. A statement jewelry piece (necklace)

2. Some kind of pattern (top)

3. A pop of color (shoes!)

Other essentials for a perfectly put together look are always the purse and the jacket.  Today I wore a red / white checked trench (apt 9) with a black Gucci purse (thrifted).

Coming out of the closet … (my shoes!)

DSCF4256DSCF4250

I decided to take my sexy shoes out of hiding!  Instead of hiding them under work pants, I’m putting them right out in the open – shocking!  I know…

I did actually purchase these shoes with the intent that they would be “going out” shoes, however, they’ve been collecting dust in my closet for a month now – so I just went ahead and wore them to work.  I kept the colors neutral and wore a conservative dress (vintage thrift find), so I figured that would balance out the sexier shoe (BCBG).

Little did I know what a hit they would be!!  I received several compliments on them throughout the day (from both men and women!), so they definitely made good on their first work debut.

On the hunt

DSCF3857DSCF3853 DSCF3854

olive blazer: dkny.  belt: tj maxx.  dress: forever XXI.  pink blouse: thrift.  boots: gianni bini.  tights: ??

Am I dressed for hunting?  Well, that’s what I’m doing today!  House hunting that is…

I’m very happy in my current place, but it’s feeling a little small and I also would like a backyard where I can get a puppy  :)  oh – and also a 2 car garage so the man can finally stop complaining about scraping off the ice and snow from his car in the winter (sorry honey!  the girl always get the garage if there’s only one spot!).

I haven’t found the dream home yet, but in the meantime, I’ll continue hunting!
