Meeting Day

Silk tie top: Forever XXI.  Layer pencil skirt: INC.  Shoes: Steven.

Last week at work we had our leadership team in town (= all day meetings).  I choose to go with something sleek and sophisticated, with just a little spice but still very professional.  It worked well for the day and the dinner to follow except that the meeting room we were in was quite cold, so halfway through the day I had to cover up with a jacket.  I hated to break up the ensemble, but let’s face it - sometimes you’ve got to be practical.

Leisurely Mornings

Lace Detail Top: Chadwicks.  Belt: Beatnix.  Lace Detail Skirt: The LImited.  Shoes: Steve Madden.  Bracelets: can’t remember…

I love my mornings.  People may think I’m odd, but I get up about 1 1/2 hrs before I actually have to leave for work every day.  Yep, that makes for a pretty early wake up call (particularly since my commute is close to an hour!), but it’s worth it.

I make coffee and eat a nice breakfast, take a long shower or bath, watch a little TV, pick out my outfit, pack my lunch and workout clothes for the day, and finally take a quick blog pic before heading out the door.

On to the clothes --

I like to mix more classic softer pieces with bolder modern accent items - so the belt, bracelets, and shoes helped give this girly look just a hint of drama.

My only issue with the outfit originally was the fit of the skirt.  I’ve lost a couple pounds of late and have found a few of my skirts too big around the waist.  The best option is, of course, to have them taken in – but until I get to my seamstress, I’m using this handy trick: a belt!

I just tucked the excess skirt fabric under the belt and cinched myself right up!  It isn’t something I’d recommend on a regular basis, but in a pinch it definitely works.

Picnic in the heat

7273

Oh the blessed Cincinnati heat and humidity…  did I also mention the sporadic rain?  Well, the weather may not have been perfect, but I’ll never complain about a day I get to spend off work and eating food!

I actually contemplated the night before on what I would wear (a rare thing!) for this occasion.  Since it was a work outing and I still had to be in the office in the morning, I didn’t want to be too overly casual (shorts & tee…) – but I also wanted to be in something more casual and comfortable than my normal business attire.  With the exception of my dress not being conducive to rain (then again not many fabrics are…), the summer dress and bejeweled flats ended up being a perfect choice.

My friends

DSCF4393

Dress: maxandcleo.  Watch: Guess.  Ballet flats: Steve Madden.

I’m working another wedding event tonight and am wearing my trusty Steve Madden ballet flats.

I love my heels to pieces, but they just won’t do for a night of working 4-5 hours on my feet.

The first time I helped out at one of these events, I wore 2-3 inch heels (which is pretty low for me!!) and I ended up being SO uncomfortable that night.  Never again.  Ballet flats, you are my friend.  Of course, a dress with trusty stretch material (i.e. wrinkle free!) and enough pattern to negate any major jewelry requirement is also my good friend  :)

Weekend Party Dresses

I had a ton of stuff going on this weekend!  From birthdays and parties to plays and working.  I didn’t get pics for all my busy weekend outfits, but I did get a few.  Ironically, even with all of the very different outfits – I wore all Steve Madden shoes!

To me, one of the most important things when choosing an outfit is making sure it’s appropriate for the event.

I think about what I’ll be doing, where I’m going, who will be there, etc…  These thing play in to even the most basic choices (length of skirt, height of heel, etc..).

As you can see, each of my events this weekend called for very different attire!

Not Santa’s Suspenders

Grey Button Up: Express.  Skirt: JC Penny’s.  Tights: Simply Vera.  Shoes: Steven.  Suspenders: ??  Necklace: Macy’s.

I love how quirky suspenders are!  They gave this outfit just the right amount of whimsy and still kept it men’s-wear inspired.
