Casual Chic

Jacket: The Limited.  Sweater: Express.  Jeans: Ann Taylor.  Shoes: Nine West.  Ring: Forever XXI.  Coat: Jessica Simpson.

Casual can be chic!  It may not be the most interesting outfit I’ve ever worn, but everything fit well and made me feel good, so that’s what truly mattered to me.  Particularly since this day was a seriously CRAZY hectic day – it was nice to be casual and not have to worry about any “fuss and fluff”   :)

kimono inspired

Okay, so my outfit is really a far cry from these authentic kimonos, but the red silk tunic did feel somehow reminiscent of them.  This tunic also had a lovely and intricate pattern / weave to the neckline which I fell in love with.  Classic, easy, bright.  Works for me!  Add dark wash jeans and I’m ready for weekend running or a casual Friday in the office.

Fancy or Classic?

Skirt: Paul Harris Denim.  White Cotton Top: INC.  Shoes: Gianni Bini.

The below look was my dressier mix for this skirt.  I think it worked for keeping the look professional, but still a little special and more interesting than just the plain tee.

If I wanted to go a bit more casual, all I had to do was take off the above top and add a basic jean jacket.  A jean jacket makes any look classic and pulled together.

Ruffles Revisited

DSCF4767DSCF4766

Vest: Express.  Brown Wrap: Sunny Leigh.  Shoes: Nine West.  Necklace: Macy’s.

Most people in my office wear jeans on Fridays, and I sometimes do too – but not today!  I felt like being a little more dressy as I was meeting one of my girlfriends for dinner / happy hour after work.  My feet were a little tired at the end of the day, but it was worth it!

This is the first time I paired this ruffle top with a vest, and I think I dig it.  I wouldn’t suggest it for a more top heavy or broad shouldered woman, but for someone who’s a bit smaller on top, it brought nice attention upward and didn’t feel too busy.  A colorful necklace (and shoes!) completed the look.

Studly Shoulders

Tee: The Limited.  Jeans: INC.  Shoes: Newport News.  Rings: Forever XXI.

Who says you can’t give a little pizzazz to a tee shirt and jeans day?  This was such an easy and comfortable outfit - with just a little bling to mix things up.

I recently made a stop at The Limited where they were having a phenomenal sale. I purchased my favorite skirt of the moment (I accidentally titled it from the Loft in my last post, but it really is from The Limited!) as well as this studded shoulder tee.  The skirt was $13 and this tee was $4.  SERIOUSLY?!?!  Yes.  Believe it.  The fabrics are so great and both items are machine washable.  I hadn’t been to The Limited in years, but I am now converted.

Tread Carefully

Cropped Jacket: INC.  Jeans: Tommy Hilfiger.  Silk Blouse: George.  Shoes: Unisa.

My latest casual Friday look.  I love light silky tops during the summer – they just feel so good and also look fresh and summer-y.  Add a cropped jacket for a little edge (and too keep me warm!) and I’m set for the day.

As training for the upcoming 5K, I’ve been running during my lunch hour and in the evenings.  This hour becomes a great escape from the daily routine and I’m actually enjoying it.  I have to remember to be careful with my heels though… these wedges actually hurt my right ankle, and I’ve had to walk really light on it these last few days.  Ah, the things we do for fashion.

How much is a pink Cadillac anyway?

37

Black lace top: Newport News.  Purple wrap: Express.  Jean skirt: INC.  Silver cuff: Forever XXI.  Wedges: Steve Madden.

With my sexy stacked wedge, I decided it was appropriate to cover up a bit more on top.  An easy way to add coverage to a low cut shirt is to add a sheer or lace undershirt.  Wa-la!  Transformation complete.

After work, a friend and I went to a Mary Kay party where we were forced (ok, not really…) to take off all our makeup (what was left of it after a long day at work…) and get all made up again using Mary Kay products.  Aside from the naked face in public thing, it was pretty fun and I purchased a few products that I hope will last me a while.  Has anyone ever noticed that “maintaining” yourself is quite expensive?!?

Well – enough ramblings for the night.  Until tomorrow~  L

Ruffles Revealed

Can you see the cute ruffles and rosette?!   :)

Even though it was only a 4 day work week, it still felt just as long as a normal week and I’m so glad it’s Friday!

I love this little tank, but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to wear it to work or not…  Throwing a casual blazer over it turned out to be a great solution.   Only bummer was that the ruffles were somewhat covered.

Happy Almost Weekend

DSCF4342Happy happy Friday!  I’m feeling the need to escape lately – and while I’m not really sure how to manage that in everyday life – I am glad it’s the weekend, and I do hope to find just a bit of escape in the next few days.

Tonight is Sex & the City!  Tomorrow, who knows..?

I was planning on really getting glam-ed up for girl’s night, but changed my mind last minute & decided to be more comfortable and just wear what I wore to work.  I think it was still fun enough for a girls’ dinner & movie night!

Ruffle Love

DSCF4271

Pink polka dot cardigan: Target.  Ruffle top: Macy’s.  Jeans: NY & Co.  Shoes: Newport News.

 DSCF4270

I love that ruffles are still “in” this season, but really – I’d wear them whether they were or not.

The good on ruffles:

1. If your smaller on top, ruffles can balance out your frame and bring symmetry to your figure.

2. Ruffles are an easy way to bring visual interest to an otherwise basic outfit.

3. Ruffles can fit almost any personality – they can be big and bold, or delicate and dainty.  Choose the ruffle style that works best for you!

4. Ruffled items are everywhere now, so they’re easy to find if you want to purchase.  If you’re trying ruffles for the first time, try Forever 21, H&M, Alloy.com, or Delias for affordable ruffle experiments.

The bad on ruffles:

1. Be wary of where you wear them on your body, because ruffles add bulk.  If you are looking to slim your hips, or camouflage broad shoulders – those are not the places to add ruffles.

2. Just like any bold pattern or color, ruffles can overwhelm. Remember when you look in the mirror – your should first see YOU, not your clothes.  If all you see is ruffles, you probably need to scale down.

3. They are a trend, so they won’t be around forever.  I suggest spending less on trendy items and more on staple items, so look for affordable ruffle options vs. spending high dollar for something that may not be in style next season.

Sweater Layering

The last few days I’ve been on a red “kick” and now it seems I’ve moved on to blue!  I unconsciously did a double take on layering with sweaters the last couple days as well.  Since the weather has been going back and forth between cool and warm, a sweater is the perfect option for that in-between weather – it’s simply a quick shrug of the shoulder to switch up the look!

Casual or Classic

DSCF4062

Necklace: Macy’s.  Sheer Purple Top: Express.  Leopard Print Cardigan: Forever XXI.  Jeans: JC Penny’s.  Boots: Giani Bini.

A more casual spin to this outfit with boots and a colorful chunky necklace.  A more classic / professional option with peep toe heels and a simple diamond stud necklace.  Either way works depending on the occasion.

It’s such a simple and easy change to this outfit, but that’s what made the transition so great!  I could wear the more classic version to work and make an easy change into dinner clothes (i.e. outfit w/ boots!).  It’s a  second switch-a-roo!

Hidden Treasures

DSCF3913DSCF3908

Blazer: Kohl’s.  Jeans: Express.  Shoes: Report.  Blue Detailed Tee: NY & Co.

I really never get to wear my fun heels enough!  I have so many of them that I love, but they just sit in my closet wasting away   :(

My first hope in getting to wear my fashionista shoes more often is to hopefully start going out more.  I become somewhat of a hermit during the winter months, so now that it is warm again I can get out and give some much needed light to my closet-bound heels.

Another reason I don’t wear them as often as I like is that I just can’t get away with them at work because they are either inappropriate or would just be too damn uncomfortable!  On jeans days, however – I can sometimes hide a little something special underneath (as long as I’m not planning on walking a marathon that day…)!  Peek-a-boo sexy shoe!  LOL…

Business or Casual

DSCF3792 DSCF3793

I wore this outfit last Friday to work (yes, I’m very behind in my posts!).  Most people wear jeans on Friday, but I wanted to switch things up a bit – so I still went for casual, but not as casual as jeans.

This classic ensemble of pencil skirt, blouse, and over jacket can be mixed up a million different ways!  It’s definitely one of my go-tos.

Men’s wear inspired item of the day: loafers!
